Here an article from Juniorcelebs Race To Witch Mountain stars AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig come to share their acting tip!!
TIP ONE : PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
Alexander says: I’ve always loved performing, but I think it’s really important to train as much as you can. Sign up for a school play, read books and learn as much as possible! My parents always show me videos of things I would do as a kid, like jumping onto tables singing – and I really do believe that practice makes perfect. I love to entertain, so I’d practice everywhere and anywhere I could.
TIP TWO: TAKE CLASSES
AnnaSophia says: When I was little, I remember pointing at the TV and saying, ‘That’s what I want to do.’ Acting was in my blood, so I took acting class and I learned how to act in front of a camera. Learning how to stand and speak on camera is really important if you want to act on screen – and it helps to calm audition nerves. If you’re serious about this industry, sign up for classes and get involved.
TIP THREE: PREPARE!
Alexander says: It’s important to put 100% preparation into every audition you go for. If there’s a script, read it all so that you know everything about the film. I love making notes in the script to help me remember bits – but the most important thing to do is memorize the lines!
TIP FOUR: NERVES ARE FINE
AnnaSophia says: You can’t stop nerves. Everybody has them. I’ll practice my lines like crazy before an audition because I’ll always freeze up with nerves. I’m fine when I film on a set, but I get so nervous in auditions. My hands will shake and my mind will go blank. Sometimes nerves work to your best advantage because the adrenaline pushes you forward. Take the adrenaline and use it in the scene to your advantage!
TIP FIVE: BE POLITE!
Alexander says: Shake everyone’s hands when you walk into an audition room. It makes it so much more personal. Be yourself, but I think it’s a great idea to be very friendly to everyone you meet in there. Try to be confident, but not cocky. Believe in yourself and be the character when you’re reading your lines.
TIP SIX: KEEP GOING
AnnaSophia says: If you mess up in an audition, keep going. Try to improvise and carry on. I’ve done this loads of times in the past. After you’ve finished, just ask if you can try it again – and generally they will let you. They’re expecting you to be nervous, so don’t worry about it.
TIP SEVEN: TAKE YOUR TIME!
Alexander says: It’s your audition, so take your time. Don’t feel rushed or pressured! If you flub a line and you don’t feel like you can improvise, just stop and ask nicely to start again. Don’t get into a panic. If it’s just a little mistake, keep going and stay in character. You’ll be remembered for being original.
TIP EIGHT: KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE!
AnnaSophia says: Directors often have something very specific in their mind when they’re casting. You can do the most amazing job, but if you’ve got the wrong color hair or you’re too short or too tall, then you’re not right for the role. It’s just like choosing ice-cream. Vanilla and strawberry and chocolate chip are all loved by different people – but it doesn’t mean one is better than the other.
TIP NINE: GIVE IT YOUR BEST SHOT!
Alexander says: There are definitely auditions where you know you’ve nailed it, which is how I felt after I came out of my audition for Race To Witch Mountain. You have good days and bad days, but I was feeling confident with this one because I totally connected with AnnaSophia and Dwayne [Johnson]. When I walked out, I thought to myself, ‘If I don’t get this, at least I gave my best.’ That’s all you can do!
TIP TEN: KEEP YOUR CHIN UP!
AnnaSophia says: Luckily, I didn’t have to audition for Race To Witch Mountain, but I’ve been to loads of auditions in the past. Auditions are the hardest things in the world – especially as you have to do hundreds to get that one breakout role. Don’t worry if you don’t get the role you want. Keep your chin up – and remember that there are loads more roles out there. Good luck!
